Jason Mayer handed life sentence for 'frenzied' Tunstall murder
MURDERER Jason Mayer stabbed grandad Kelvin Williams 59 times to silence his screams during a 'frenzied' attack.
Mayer is today starting a life sentence after murdering the 58-year-old at his Tunstall home last December.
The 42-year-old must spend at least 22 years behind bars before he can be considered for parole.
Mayer had been released from prison just days before he murdered Mr Williams.

Birmingham Crown Court heard how Mayer, pictured right, had visited Mr Williams at his home in Westbourne Drive on December 17, claiming he was owed money by the alcoholic's son.
As they argued, Mayer picked up a Stanley knife, which Mr Williams attempted to take from him.
Mr Williams cut his hands on the blade, and he started screaming. As he tried to push past Mayer, the defendant accidentally slashed him across the throat. As Mr Williams continued to scream and choke on his own blood, Mayer launched a brutal assault on him, stabbing him repeatedly in the neck, chest and back. Mayer then mopped up the blood and left before later washing his bloodstained clothes.
Details of the murder have come from confessions Mayer made to family and friends shortly after the incident.
But the judge believes Mayer has 'significantly downplayed' the nature and extent of his assault.
Mrs Justice Beverley Lang said: "The post-mortem identified around 50 separate stab wounds.
"This was a frenzied attack on a defenceless man. He was in poor health as a result of his alcoholism and he walked with a stick. You say you panicked. You were, however, in sufficient control to try to conceal the evidence."
Members of Mayer's family visited Mr Williams's home after the defendant confessed to his crime. But after getting no answer they called in police. Mayer, who is from Stoke-on-Trent but had no permanent address, pleaded guilty to murder just as his trial was due to start in October.
Andrew Stubbs QC, mitigating, told the court the murder was not premeditated.
Mr Stubbs said: "His situation has come about through a combination of his addiction and a reaction to the brutal abuse and neglect of his own upbringing. Mr Mayer drinks and takes drugs to obliterate his reality. He did not arrive at Mr Williams's home with violence on his mind. He was only seeking money for more drink and drugs."
