Jailed mum Margaret Bailey pledged to repay 'every penny'
JAILED school secretary Margaret Bailey wrote an open letter explaining how she had 'lost everything' as a result of her scam.
Bailey's defence barrister Jason Holt read out her words in court yesterday, as the fraudster made attempts to apologise for her crimes.
Bailey wrote: "I'm writing this letter today to tell you how devastated I am to be standing here before you.
"I would try to explain how I came to be in this position but I do not know myself.

"I do know that I have lost everything I love.
"I have not spoken to my children in months.
"I don't ask the court or my family to forgive me because I do not forgive myself.
"I will live with the pain and terrible feeling of loss until the day I die."
Bailey added that losing the love of her children as a result of her actions was 'more than I can bear'.
Mr Holt said Bailey planned to repay 'every penny' of the money she stole, and that she had put her properties up for sale in order to do this.
He said she had a troubled upbringing and had undergone counselling.
Mr Holt also said Bailey was overwhelmed by the amount of trust placed in her and that her scam 'snowballed'.
The barrister added: "The one thing that is clear in this case is that there was an inappropriate degree of trust and responsibility placed in Mrs Bailey. There were no proper checks in place."

“Did she make sure her own kids didn't have 'a troubled upbringing'? -at the expense of other kids' upbringing?
That's what's doing her own kids' heads in; that they benefited from the pockets of their classmates -indirectly through the purses of their generous parents, who, unlike her, had the community at heart, not a desire to satisfy the needs of her own kids.
Maybe after jail, and repaying all the money, it that ever happens, then dedicating her life to other parents' kids in the community -scrubbing floors whatever it takes, 'hands on open repenting', then maybe, just maybe, some will start to forgive her ...even her own kids....?
The proof of the pudding is in the eating. She may even save her own soul in the bargain.”

“Overwhelmed? She knew what she was doing all along, she funded her daughter's acting career and trips to the USA for film school with money raised by the efforts of the kids and parents. She double crossed and lied to the parents and staff for years, ask them how she manipulated them for her own devious ends. £89k is only a guess at the end of the day.”

“No proper checks in place, well there you go, its the schools who to blame then. Fancy them trusting someone to do a job without filling their own dammed pockets.”
