Izaak Walton's Cottage
IZAAK Walton, author of The Compleat Angler, owned a cottage nestled in the tiny hamlet of Shallowford, between Stafford and Eccleshall, which has now been opened up to visitors.
The thatched 16th century half-timbered cottage is not just of interest to anglers.
It offers an insight into the history of fishing and the literary talent of Stafford's famous son. Visitors can also enjoy the Medieval herb and rose garden.
Izaak Walton left the cottage in his will to the people of Stafford. Inside it holds evidence which depicts Izaak Walton as a merchant, churchman, biographer, writer, angler, and royalist.
The period rooms are furnished to reflect the rural trappings of the 17th century.
Izaak Walton's Cottage is open on weekends, from May until August, between 1pm and 5pm.
Admission is free, with the exception of special events.
