Devendra Singh is accused of killing Charlotte Smith whose body was discovered at her home in Ladderedge, Leek, on September 6.

A post-mortem examination revealed the 41-year-old – who was known by family and friends as Charlie – died from head and facial injuries, which are suspected to have been caused by a blunt instrument.

Singh, of Ladderedge, pleaded not guilty to the charge at Birmingham Crown Court yesterday.
