CRUEL SPORT: I would like to reply to the article in

The Sentinel on Saturday, December 27, in connection with the hunting ban.

When the law came into force, it was the best thing that could have happened.

As far as I am concerned, this is a very cruel sport and the ban should never be lifted.

I would also like to mention that I feel very strongly against animal cruelty. Anyone ill-treating an animal should be sentenced - and not just banned from keeping animals for six or 12 months. They should automatically be banned for life.

I don't feel the law in this country is strict enough on a lot of things.

People get away too lightly and the law needs to change.

“The best thing that could of happened ? More foxes are bieng killed since the ban by far crueler methods such as snaring (slow strangulation) and shooting which does not allways result in a clean kill and can leave wounded foxes taking days or even weeks to die from gangrean. Living and working in the countryside I have noticed a marked decline in the once healthy fox population in many areas. The best thing that could of happened for your conscience Lynn, not the fox.”

“I admire your stand Lynn, but like the other anti cruel brigade you fail to mention a more serious form of cruelty, that of hal al, where animals have their throats slit and are left to bleed to death.”
