LOST VOTE: I read with disgust the comments of members of the North Staffordshire Hunt (The Sentinel, December 28), especially the one by John Mason who says: "Hunting is a tradition which is part of English heritage."

So were ducking stools for witches, flogging and hanging – does he want to bring back these 'traditions' as well?

As for the ban being repealed if the Conservatives get into power, well I normally would have voted for them but if they consider repealing the ban then I will vote for another party.

“There is no case for repeal. Hunt numbers are up all over the country. Drag hunting is legal. The sense of community, pageantry, heritage, and jobs are all still intact and yet these disgraceful people can¿t manage to enjoy themselves unless they are terrifying and killing animals.

Please go to the campaignfordecency org website and add your name to the 'all party' register. There is no excuse for cruelty!”

“Perhaps the conservatives are not as clever as they think, they are acting like hounds themselves on the scent of the hunt ban, baying for permission to kill foxes etc again. But I feel they seriously underestimate public feelings, the Countryside Alliance may think they have Cameron and Co in their pockets and will get back their licence to kill but the general public may decide that in fact their sickening haste to get back to killing should deny them their shot at government. I hope so!”

“The Hunting Act 2004 must not be repealed or otherwise undone. If anything, it needs strengthening so that we can be sure that chasing and killing wild animals for fun is clearly and for ever unlawful and regarded by all with well-deserved revulsion. If Cameron, Hague, Herbert, etc., think that repeal of the Act would be a vote winner in rural areas, they are very much mistaken.”
