Hundreds are left fighting it out for 39 jobs
MORE than 300 jobseekers turned up at a recruitment event – to compete for just 39 jobs.
Housing association Plus Dane, which has 35 vacancies and four apprentice positions to fill, held the event at its Congleton base last week.
Staff said they were "almost overwhelmed" with applicants.
Managing director Jayne Phillips said: "The world has changed and unemployment is now more of a challenge for this area. We believe it is up to organisations like Plus Dane to create local jobs and training opportunities.

"It is up to all of us to take positive action to make things better for the neighbourhoods we work with and live in.
"These are good quality, permanent jobs in a wide variety of trades which will help us improve our service and bring more cash into local pockets."
The new jobs are in Plus Dane's trades team, which currently employs 130 workers and nine apprentices. They include joiners, plumbers, gas engineers, ground workers and electricians.
The firm manages thousands of homes in Cheshire, Staffordshire and Merseyside.
Latest figures show 3,890 people are currently claiming JobSeeker's Allowance in South Cheshire.
