Stafford Hospital doctors to appear before the GMC
THREE senior doctors are to face disciplinary action over their management roles at Stafford Hospital.
The General Medical Council will hold fitness to practise cases against Dr John Gibson and Dr Valerie Suarez, who were medical directors between 2003 and 2009, and their deputy Dr David Durrans.
Jan Harry, the trust's director of nursing until 2006, also faces a hearing before the Nursing and Midwifery Council accused of bulling staff and failing to ensure safe levels of care.
The cases follow a damning inquiry into the running of Stafford Hospital where 1,200 needless deaths and appalling failures in care were uncovered. Stafford is now set to be downgraded with many of its services switching to the University Hospital of North Staffordshire.
