Keep the Hoard in Staffordshire, say MPs
MPS have called on councils in the West Midlands to work closely with the Government to find cash to keep the Staffordshire Hoard in Stoke-on-Trent.
The treasure consists of 1,500 individual items which were uncovered by metal detector Terry Herbert in a south Staffordshire field in July.

Stoke-on-Trent City Council has already joined forces with Staffordshire County Council and Birmingham City Council to bid for Government grants to buy the Hoard and showcase it in the county where it was found.
The find contains 5kg of gold and 2.5kg of silver.
Joan Walley, Stoke North MP, Mark Fisher, Stoke Central MP, and Rob Flello, Stoke South MP, tabled a petition in the House of Commons which urged "all concerned to work in partnership with the minister for the region to secure the necessary funding to bring the Staffordshire Hoard to the Potteries Museum".

“With out doubt the treasure should remain in Staffordshire. Please do not take it down South we will never see it again and local people cannot afford to visit the Capital. It will also generate money from the visitors it will attract to hopefully go back into the local area's”
