BIDDULPH High School student Faye Cruikshank has been offered a place to study history at Cambridge University.

The conditional offer comes after Faye, aged 18, gained five As at AS Level. She also gained eight A stars and one A at GCSE level.

She will be heading to Cambridge if she is successful in gaining three A grades at A Level.

Faye said: "I have always liked history. I remember watching an episode of Blue Peter when I was just six years old. It was about Henry VIII and his wives and the subject fascinated me.

"I love the ambiguity of history, where there's an opportunity to speculate and argue, which suits my personality. I prefer this to having a straight answer."

Faye, who plays guitar as a hobby, likes to read other history books at home apart from those related to her A level studies. As for the future, she says: "I'm not really sure at the moment. A career in law is one of my options but I just want to further my studies first."

Faye's deputy head-teacher Mike Hall has nominated her in the Bright Young Thing category of the Staffordshire Moorlands Awards.

He said: "Faye is the first at our school to have been offered a place at Cambridge University in three years. She is an exceptionally high achiever and is an inspiration to other students."

On being nominated for the award, Faye said: "I am thrilled that I have been nominated and it is nice to have the recognition."
