High achievers ready to celebrate as top grades earn them university spots

Students at Moorlands VI Form College, in Cheadle, have been celebrating a year of record breaking A-level results.

Amy Boast, aged 18, from Park Hall, will be the first member of her family to go to university. She has secured a place at Leicester to study maths. Amy got straight As in physics, maths, further maths and psychology.

She said: "I am very pleased. It was the result I was hoping to get."

Emma Jackson, aged 18, from Cellarhead, is off to Sheffield University to study biology after getting straight As in biology, psychology and general studies, along with a B in geology and a D in chemistry.

During her time at college, Emma has set up an eco-council and has helped make it greener by introducing more recycling bins , planting trees and putting up bird boxes.

She said: "I am very pleased with the A-level results, they are better than I expected."

Mharia Dunion, aged 18, from Uttoxeter, got four As in maths, further maths, physics and chemistry and will study maths at Edinburgh University.

She said: "It has been a lot of hard work. I had been up all night before getting my results. I went on the internet, so I knew I had got my university place before I came into college."

Terry Hammond, aged 18, from Cheadle, got A grades in business, PE, history and general studies and a B in maths. He will be going to Manchester University to study accountancy.

He said: "I knew I had got into university, but I did not know what I had got. I am off to celebrate."

Victoria Lear, aged 18, from Cheadle, gained Bs in business and sociology, a C in psychology, and an E in general studies. She will study business management at Staffordshire University.

She said: "I am very pleased. I was predicting three Cs."

Jodie Gittins, aged 18, from Werrington, is hoping to be a lawyer after getting straight As in maths, biology and law, along with Bs in chemistry and general studies. She is going to Manchester University, where she will study law.

She said: "I am very pleased with the results. They were loads better than I was expecting."

Natasha Ekin, aged 19, from Kingsley, is heading to Nottingham Trent University to study English and linguistics. In her A-levels, she achieved a B in general studies, Cs in philosophy and English language, and a D in sociology.

She said: "I am shocked, thrilled and ecstatic.

"It has not sunk in yet.

"I am really looking forward to going to university."
