Hiding behind the institutions
Whether it's the council, the tax office, the DWP or even the wigged apparel at a court of law, officialdom hides behind the same mantra.
Take Stoke on Trent City Council for example, after closing care homes and community facilities, they award themselves a new £40 million house (when the one they have already got is in perfect working order) to hide behind.

Yes, it would be better to be positioned in the so called Central Business District so they can all hide together. Then they are only answerable to themselves and each other.
It seems that when the lone Layperson takes on an issue, the power of the institution flexes its muscles to faze that issue out as in they all gang together. Yes, they can 'cross departmentalise' (as in passing the issue to another department to confuse you) they can keep the Layperson in the dark as to the in-house procedures, use the convenient Data Protection Act or even manipulate legalities to offset or frustrate the issue or just completely ignore you.

Have you also noticed how they have your home address but you don't have theirs?
It's time those hiding were flushed out of their crevices and made to answer directly for their actions.
Then we can truly assess who is conveniently hiding behind our institutions.

You can access all your local councillor's contact information eg their home addresses, telephone numbers, surgeries and their Council email addresses (whether that is in Newcastle or Stoke etc.). This is a 'pre-requisite' when standing for public office. Although why anyone would want to put themselves in such a position is beyond me!

The writer is referring to the people who hide behind the institutions as can be seen in the final sentence. As for having our addresses I read it to mean they have our home address when we do not have theirs.”

“I'm not so sure any of the institutions the poster refers to are hiding, nor do I agree that they have our address but we don't have theirs? All are accessible and well publicised if you have an issue and most give a plethora of opportunities to contact them in person, by phone, email, text etc.Whether they listen, is of course, a different argument altogether.
I do accept that to re-locate at times of great austerity measures and cuts is not the most appropriate or sensitive thing to be seen to do. This is the same Council who vacated Unity House in an attempt to regenerate Stoke Town (not the city centre) and now realises the error of it's folly.
Stoke Town is in mortal decay and if and when the Council moves it's administrative centre out then it's obituary is complete.”
