A FLOCK of rescued birds of prey will go on display to highlight the work of a charity.

Customers at Pets At Home's Trent Vale store will be able to see owls, hawks and falcons helped by Gentleshaw Wildlife Centre in Eccleshall on Saturday and Sunday.

There will also be activities and quizzes for children.

The Gentleshaw Wildlife Centre looks after captive birds that have been abandoned and also runs a hospital facility, which has helped rehabilitate around 50 wild birds of prey each year since its opening in 1994.

Store manager Deborah Toft said: "Many people do not see these birds in our fields any more and it's a great opportunity for them to learn a lot more about them first-hand from the experts.

"The Harry Potter films seem to have increased public interest in wild birds and, in particular, owls.

"Keeping these birds is very time-consuming and requires lots of specialist knowledge to make sure they get the correct care, so they are not suitable to be kept as pets."
