SKIRTING THE ISSUE: Rain failed to dampen the spirits of nursery school children taking part in a Hawaiian-themed day.

Pupils from Northwood Broom Community School yesterday swapped their school uniforms for Hawaiian shirts and grass skirts to conclude two weeks of learning about countries from around the globe.

Assistant headteacher Sabah Qayum, aged 29, said: "The children have had a fantastic experience over the two weeks.

"They have learnt about different countries and cultures."

Children from the school in Northwood spent the day practising in an Hawaiian beach band, playing on an indoor beach and competing in a limbo contest.

The youngsters also had the chance to sample tropical fruits and enjoyed a barbecue and fruit punch.
