A GYM has confirmed it will not be offering compensation to members who had property stolen in a locker raid.

PureGym branches in Fenton and Etruria were both targeted by thieves on February 18, within a couple of hours of one another.

Items stolen included cash, wallets, a watch and smartphones.

A PureGym spokesman said: "PureGym will not be offering compensation to members affected.

"It states clearly in our conditions of membership and within each changing room, that members are solely responsible for their own belongings while visiting PureGym and that items are left in lockers at the owner's own risk.

"Having said that, we would like to reiterate that PureGym takes the safety of our members and their possessions seriously, and are taking steps to ensure an incident of this nature doesn't happen again."

“Boycott "Pure Gym" when there membership expires. Join another, but ask the question about security and compensation if a theft occurs.

Ask to see the insurance documents and ask where it states.
That in the case of theft from a locker, no compensation will be paid.

If they refuse show the documents, there should be a notice displayed in the Gym showing that they have insurance and the Insurer's name on it. Contact them directly and ask the question.

It wouldn't surprise me to find that they are covered but "Pure Gym won't put a claim because the premiums will go up.”

“It's easy for the gym to say that you leave things at your own risk. but you would think when items are locked in lockers they would be safe. Its not always possible to leave things at home. I use another gym and go during my lunch or after work. Inevitably I have personal things with me and usually use the gym lockers. This tale has made me more aware and I will be taking as little as possible to my gym. But it does sound like there are security issues if two Pure gyms were done.”

“Pure Gym sounds like the ideal place to loose a few pounds (££££). Seriously though I feel sorry for those who had their stuff nicked and then got a kick in the teeth from the gym owners. Typical big company. Only interested in profit and forget about bloke in the street. Shame on you Pure Gym.”
