Great to see the new faces - but let's not forget who put us where we are
If Lee Hughes puts pen to paper for Port Vale tomorrow then it will be another coup for the new owners in the space of a few days.
The very fact that we are signing players at all - let alone ones who don't come cheap and have experience because they've played at a higher level - is tremendous when you consider where the club was just six months ago.
-

The Sneyd Green Pontiff - Tom Pope.
The fact that we are sitting around discussing signings at all is remarkable.
Lee Hughes may not be on everyone's Christmas card list but if you look at the signing dispassionately, in purely football terms, he would be a good acquisition.

Like Chrissy Birchall and Darren Purse, he is capable of playing in League One and I would suggest he's got another 18 months in him.
The only danger here, for me, is that the new arrivals upset the dressing room in some way - something I'm sure Micky Adams wouldn't allow.
We've no room for big-time Charlies in Boslem.
For me, Tom Pope, Ben Williamson, Jennison Myrie-Williams, Ashley Vincent and Louis Dodds are the future.
They have put us where we are the league and, in my opinion, are all capable of doing well if we get promoted.
I really hope we can keep them all and give them extended contracts to protect them as assets.
See tomorrow's Sentinel for the full transfer story and Micky Adams's take on his new arrivals.

“I agree with you Martin, Messrs Pope, Williamson, Williams, Vincent, and Dodds ARE the future, along with Burge and, dare I whisper his name, Morsey. All the signings coming in this month, I suspect, will be on short term deals, with the aim of achieving promotion in May, and they will be reveiwed again, once the club knows which division they will be playing in next season. I also agree that dressing room unity MUST be preserved, at all costs.
At the moment things do look very promising, played 25 games, 54 goals and 49 points, they're on target for over 90 goals and 90 points. That will achieve promotion. Scoring an average of two goals per game, although conceding one goal a game, in simple terms that suggests winning each game 2-1, I know things aren't that simple, but it does make you think.
If Micky can make sure the players forget the "P" word, and concentrate all their efforts on the next game only, whoever it may be, then promotion will look after itself.”
