On March 13 one man was seen to meet the defendant in the alleyway.

Fiona Cortese, prosecuting, told Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court: "He was detained when he left and found with 119mg of powder which contained diamorphine."

The court heard that on March 19 another man was detained after meeting the defendant. He was found with 444mg of powder containing on average six per cent diamorphine together with caffeine and Paracetamol.

Police seized the second man's mobile phone which had messages from Bullock that indicated drug supply.

Miss Cortese said the powder seized from the two men had come from the same batch of the drug.

Bullock was arrested on April 20 and £197 in his possession was seized. He admitted using heroin and methadone daily. But he denied supplying drugs.

However, Bullock later pleaded guilty to three charges of supplying heroin.

He pleaded guilty on the basis that he was funding his own addiction to heroin by selling £10 deals to a small number of users he had associated with over the years.

Peter McCartney, mitigating, said Bullock has a long-standing heroin addiction but has stayed out of trouble in the past 10 months.

He is in a relationship which has had a stabilising influence on him and his grandchild was born a few months ago.

Mr McCartney added that Bullock has provided negative tests for heroin while on bail in Telford.

Jailing Bullock, Judge David Fletcher said: "This was street dealing. You knew what you were doing. You were in the chain and there was to be some reward for you."

But the judge added that Bullock has started to change his ways.

He added: "Your response to drug use over the last few months is quite clear – your 80 millilitre methadone script is keeping you away from street drugs.

"It is also clear there has been a considerable deceleration in recent years of your offending which has changed in its frequency and in its nature."

Under the Proceeds of Crime Act, Judge Fletcher ruled Bullock benefited by £267 and made a confiscation order for the available amount of £197. He also ordered the forfeiture and destruction of the drugs.

The sentence was today welcomed by Staffordshire Police.

Detective Constable Pete O'Reilly told The Sentinel: "Bullock was causing problems for the local community. Over a number of months we got him on 14 occasions supplying individuals with heroin.

"We hope the sentence sends out a clear message – Operation Nemesis is ongoing and we will continue tackling drug dealers.

"Our key focus is to improve the quality of life for people in this city."

“"Not your average Granddad with toffies in his pocket then."
    No, more a "Worthless Original".
He will be staying out of trouble for 12 -14 months now, in jail, his brief will probably use that one when he gets in trouble again immediately after coming out.
At least it wasn't violence, which he looks capable of, or maybe, judging by the face, he's not very good at fighting.”

    What a loser.

I wonder if his term in prison will make him realise his grand children need him more than his druggie clients.”
