Gig Guide with Lyndsey Oliver
IT'S time to dust off your wellies and get your macs out if you're among those who will be descending on Weston Park in Stafford today for the Virgin Mobile Music Festival on Saturday and on Sunday.
Now in its 14th year, acts gracing the weekend both in Stafford and it's dual site in Chelmsford, Essex, include Oasis, McFly, Fatboy Slim, Peter Doherty and The Killers.
For those of you, however, who opted to watch the many bands in style, curled up on your sofa with a nice warm mug of cocoa, away from the mud/rain/sun (because the weather is oh so unpredictable) there's plenty in the city to quench your musical appetite this week.
Tonight Hudson headline The Sugarmill on Friday. The pop/punk band share the spirit of the likes of Sum 41, and are releasing their self produced EP in December. Support comes from Hanging Iscariot, and tickets are available on the door for £4 from 7pm.
At the Oxford Arms on Saturday, catch Already Gone, a Cheadle band who play a mixture of rock classics from Guns and Roses, Bon Jovi and some of their own material.
The guys are so impressive that they've even been called up to headline the upcoming festival at Uttoxeter racecourse. Music starts at 8.30pm and entrance is £2 on the door.
On Sunday Bearfoot grace The Unicorn Inn in Hanley.
The local four-piece band are known for their rockabilly, bluesy sets, yet the night promises to be truly acoustic.
Music starts from 8.30pm and entrance is free. If you're looking for some smooth Country and Folk music, head no further than The Old Brown Jug. Chuck Micallef, the Canadian singer and songwriter, will be playing from 9pm. Entrance is free.
Tuesday at The Rigger sees The Barflys play their regular slot. Music starts around 9pm and entrance is £3 on the door. The venue operates a strict over 18s policy for all its live events. Otherwise The Norfolk Inn host a free gig from 8pm with three great live bands, The Edition, Stsix, and My Vote of Confidence.
Thursday welcomes The Dave Cotteril Band to the Oxford Arms, Entrance is £2 on the door from 8:30pm.
Finally next Friday you'll have a chance to spice up your life with Spice Mania at the Victoria Hall from 7:30pm.
Tickets cost between £13 and £17.50 from the box office on 0844 871 7649.
