TONIGHT The Automatic headline The Sugarmill. The Welsh foursome spent their youth crafting a giddy blend of all that's fresh in rock and pop. Support comes from Straight Lines, a band which has secured slots alongside the likes of Kids In Glass Houses and Attack! Attack! Doors open at 7.30pm and tickets cost £10 from Music Mania on 01782 206000.

Also Fat Cats in Hanley, pictured, host their legendary Wrongpop evening. With bands MS Thomason and Hell Is Other People on the bill, entrance is £3 on the door from 8pm with Vinyl DJs until 4am.

Alternatively, The Bird In Hand, in Stafford, hosts four fantastic local bands. Headliners Exhibit A take the stage alongside Cannock lads This Day Will Dawn, Stafford band Everything On Red, who have now released their debut album Rotator, and finally This Machine Is Off, a fierce mixture of bass beats and bleeps. Entrance on the door costs £3 and music starts at around 8pm.

The Green Star, in Smallthorne, will be celebrating St Patrick's Day in style on Sunday. Live music comes in the shape of Roughneck Riot, a manic mix of Irish folk and punk rock. Likened to bands such as The Clash and The Pogues, the band will soon be on tour with The Street Dogs. Entrance is £2 on the door with a 6.30pm start.

The Full Moon will be hosting its open mic acoustic night with resident Jase Lockett filling any empty slots. Bring your instrument and show them what you're made of. Music starts at 9pm and entrance is free.

Alternatively, The Fortunas play The Bennetts Tavern from 7pm. Support comes from The Bagatelles and entrance is free.

On Monday, This Legion play The Rigger from 7.30pm. The band is headlining before hitting the road in two weeks for a tour with Desolated. For tickets call the venue on 01782 616 602.

On Wednesday, at The Full Moon, enjoy Roots Music Revival with an acoustic set using a beat box and violin from Dead Radio Society. Enjoy their incredibly unique sound with diverse influences as free entry starts from 9pm.

Johnny Depp's favourite band, Babybird, headlines The Box in Crewe on Friday. Their new long player is due out imminently and features guitar by the Hollywood A Lister, who is also going to be joining the band on some of their shows. Their second single, You're Gorgeous, reached number three in the UK in October 1996, and was one of the biggest selling singles of the year. Support comes from Blame Ruby and Tomorrow's Yesterday.
