FREE health checks have been made available as part of a drive to encourage people to access health services.

The sessions in Leek include blood sugar testing, blood pressure, ideal weight calculations and quitting smoking.

They have been organised by Moorlands MP Charlotte Atkins and NHS North Staffordshire and are at Trinity Church, Derby Street, on Friday, from 2pm to 7pm.

Ms Atkins said: "People can just walk in, have free on-the-spot health checks, chat to NHS health professionals and pick up information about keeping healthy."

"The last free health MoT I held was hugely successful, with about 450 people attending, and, having listened to comments from constituents, I have changed the time to afternoon and evening to allow as many people as possible to attend after work and school."
