PROMISING footballer Oliver Edwards has been jailed for a brutal attack on a taxi driver.

The former Leek Town Football Club player was sentenced to four-and-a-half years yesterday at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court.

Following the attack on June 6, the 23-year-old apologised for his actions on a Leek Town FC internet forum.

He said: "I have made a massive mistake which I am truly sorry for and I am utterly ashamed of. I will regret it for the rest of my life. I am sorry to everybody that I have let down.
