SOUTH Moorlands Under-18s collected their fourth trophy of a glittering season with a comprehensive 4-2 victory over Red Street at Norton on Friday night.

The Moorlands side started the game slowly and were punished after 10 minutes when slack marking allowed Red Street to score from close range.

However, Jeremy Fallows' side quickly began to assert themselves. Dan Birch saw a header cleared off the line and Louis Fallows then hit the post from a corner. Minutes later Moorlands drew level when Louis Fallows found room at the far post to squeeze home an equaliser.

Flowing football followed from the confident Moorlands outfit and a quick succession of passes between Julian Maya, Birch and Matt Finney found Kris Heathcote whose goal-bound shot was handled on the line. Up stepped Fallows who calmly placed the spot-kick into the corner of the net for his second.

A third goal soon followed when further intricate play allowed Lloyd Dutton to break through. And Dutton coolly scored past the advancing keeper, Just before half-time a 30-yard screamer from Joe Hill almost brought a fourth, but the ball hit the woodwork and was cleared.

After the break Moorlands remained in control. But with 30 minutes remaining Birch was sent off for retaliating and Moorlands then conceded a controversial penalty. The spot-kick was brilliantly saved by keeper Simon Bostock but, to the consternation of the Moorlands side, the referee ordered a retake for encroachment. Red Street made no mistake from the retake and with just one goal between them and Moorland down to 10 men the game looked in the balance. However, Moorlands refused to crumble and the back four of Rob Cook, Tom Sherratt, Louis Fallows and Joe Hill held firm.

With 10 minutes to play a surging run and cross down the wing by Hill found Heathcote who teed the ball up for Julian Maya to volley home and restore the two-goal advantage. Moorlands could have added to their tally, but Maya and Dodd both spurned good opportunities. Moorlands then introduced the fresh legs of Phil Jackson in midfield in place of the excellent Dodd – and the quadruple was guaranteed after South Moorlands saw out the final minutes without any problems.

Manager Jeremy Fallows hailed his trophy-laden side. He said: "This was a fantastic win for us. We thought we had played our last game over a week ago but the players responded well tonight and have been a credit to the club all season.

"I would like to thank Rob Hill and Rebecca Sherratt and all the parents for their help and support this year – we can now look forward to a celebratory presentation evening."

He added: "Our thanks also go to Kevin Sargeant and New Haden Pumps for their support."
