Football: Hillsfield gets nod from FA to stage final
HILLSFIELD has been selected – belatedly – by Staffs FA to host the Premier Sunday Cup final on Thursday, March 18.
Sunday league's most prestigious trophy will be contested by Leek and District League reigning champions Blue Mugge and Coors League outfit Chell Heath Knave.
Kenny Scragg's Mugge side will create local history if they overcome Chell Heath by becoming the first Leek club to lift the Premier Cup.
"We have never won this competition before and our aim is to bring the trophy back to Leek," said Scragg. "It's a great opportunity for us all and I know that all the lads will be up for it.
"It will be a very difficult game, they (Chell Heath) will be full of confidence due to their current cup run and league form.
"The final should be an entertaining encounter, with two good sides looking to take the trophy home. But as I've said before, the harder the game the better we play."
The March 18 showdown was originally set to be played at Norton FC.
However, Staffs FA switched the venue following complaints from Mugge that Norton FC – which is less than one mile from Chell Heath's home pitch – did not constitute a neutral ground.
