KENNY Scragg has criticised a decision to hold the Staffordshire FA Premier Cup final at Norton United.

Blue Mugge will bid to lift the cup for the first time in their history on March 18.

But Scragg claims opponents Chell Heath Knave have been handed a "huge advantage" after the Staffordshire FA decided to stage the final "500 yards from their ground".

"It's supposed to be a neutral venue," said the Mugge manager.

"This is supposed to be the most prestigious Sunday league competition – and to play it at Norton just doesn't sit right with me.

"Half of their lads play for Norton. They know the ground and the pitch.

"Their home ground is 500 yards from Norton Football Club. What would Chell Heath say if it was being staged in Leek?

"It would be like Blue Mugge playing the game at Ball Haye Green."

Scragg has already petitioned the FA to switch the venue, but claims he has struggled to get any action.

The manager added: "They have told me put it in writing, but what would that do?

"We are not asking for an advantage. We will play them anywhere. We'll play them on the moon if need be – but not in their own back yard.

"We're not asking for any favours. But if we are asked to travel then they should be asked to travel."

The Premier Cup remains Scragg's number one target in a season which could yield an unprecedented seven-trophy haul.

Mugge suffered a heartbreaking semi-final defeat against Knave of Clubs in last year's Premier Cup.

The team were 3-0 up, but they ended up losing the match 4-3 after Knave fought back.

Scragg said: "The Knave result hurt the lads and hurt me. I'm only just getting over it now."

After that semi-final loss, Scragg is now aiming to ensure Mugge go into next month's final on an equal footing with Coors League outfit Chell Heath Knave.

And he believes a precedent has already been set for changing the venue.

The Mugge boss claims last year's final was switched from Norton FC after eventual winners Knave of Clubs reached the final.

And Knave of Clubs play from the same venue as Chell Heath Knave, according to Scragg.

"I just can't believe their choice of ground," he added.

"It is a big advantage to Chell Heath Knave.

"I've asked what can we do and am getting no joy. It should be at a neutral ground."

Post & Times Sport contacted Staffordshire FA on Monday and Tuesday of this week, but no-one from the organisation was available to comment.
