HORTICULTURE students are planning to create a community garden in the grounds of a fire station.

The team have written to hundreds of local building suppliers asking for donations, including timber for raised plating beds, trellises for climbing fruit, and compost bins.

They hope to start work on the garden outside Newcastle Fire Station in April.

The Newcastle College students have already designed its layout, which includes a wormery, sand pit, paved area and wheelchair-friendly features.

This Sunday between 11am & 4pm with FREE admission at the Moat House Hotel Festival Park we will be exhibiting with some special show offers, the weather forecast isn't good but our deals are

Once completed, the attraction will be used as an outdoor learning area for primary schoolchildren. They will be able to grow their own produce, learn about different plants and look at wildlife.
