VETERAN city MP Mark Fisher says he is unfazed by the escalating political battle for his seat at the next General Election.

The MP for Stoke-on-Trent Central was already facing a challenge from Conservative candidate Norsheen Bhatti, who made national headlines over revelations that she works as a belly dancer.

And now the BNP has chosen its deputy leader, Simon Darby, to stand in the constituency.

But Mr Fisher said he believes his record over 26 years of service will help him to his eighth General Election victory. He said: "Of course you cannot take anything for granted, and I will be working for every vote I can get, but I would hope that, given my record of working for the constituency over the last 26 years, people will stick with me.

"While the BNP has undoubtedly made gains on the city council, I don't believe the people of Stoke will support their national party message."

He added: "I have no reason to expect a dirty campaign, and if Mr Darby tries to fight me personally then I think he will be making a terrible mistake."

“"My 26 years of service" My 26 years of self service, what has Joke-on-Trent got to show for your service, and that goes for the other two as well.
We are bankrupt, services have been cut and are to be cut yet further, most of our housing stock has been "sold off' the remaining is being maintained by a company that was sued recently for millions ,as being the worst of several companies for price fixing. We featured in the midlands news for our, dodgy, methods of giving out tenders, Oh! the list goes on. What have you and your mates done for us? Speaking for your friend in the south, what has a trip out to Afghanistan achieved for Stoke? We all have regard for our soldiers, they should know that, having another sightseer to look after is no joke, but it makes a good 'photo opportunity, better if he stayed home and fought for their withdrawal. We may need them to fight for our OWN people and interests in the Falklands.
Go on list things that you have achieved for Stoke in the last 26 years?”

“Perhaps Mr. Fisher needs to wake up and smell the coffee. It isn't all about the BNP.
There are a lot of MPs who might find that, come the election, their expenses claims will play a large part in whether they are re-elected or not!”

“Excuse my confusion here, but is the sight of foreigners walking around looking well off a bad thing? If anyone is better of than me, then I assume it is down to their hard work and effort. Does anon think that they should be guaranteed a living because of their skin colour? What tosh! What racism too!”

“I think Labour need to buck up & wake up, try having a walk around with their eyes & ears open. Everywhere foreign people who openly say they are better than me, all better off than me. I think Labour have pandered to foreign workers, but will these non English speaking people turn out & vote Labour if they can. I am surprised at the amout of languages & nationalities all walking around all doing very well. Thats form a non BNP supporter.”
