THE letter on Friday, June 26 regarding the pub project from R Cocker – it was the Brown Jug, on Sneyd Street, Cobridge. The licensee was Mr Barton, the eldest of the Barton family of blacksmiths.

I remember it well. The last time I visited was December 16, 1939 when I had too much to drink and have never had any alcohol since.

“I grew up in Cobridge and as a teenager spent my free-time helping at Percy Barton's helping with the horse's. I walked past the Jug lots but I don't remember if it was still open in the 70's. The pub on Remer, I can picture it but can't remember the name as you always gave directions as "Opposite Cobridge Stadium" not by that pubs name, as was the case further down the road with " down by the Queens".”
