Fight for high speed rail goes to Parliament
AN MP has made a plea in Parliament for a high speed rail station to be created in North Staffordshire.
Stafford MP Jeremy Lefroy has taken the case for a North Staffordshire station stop on the new high speed rail line between Birmingham and Manchester to Transport Secretary Justine Greening.
Under the current plans, two stops are included on the Eastern branch line between Birmingham and Leeds, but no stop is proposed on the western line before Manchester.
Speaking at a meeting in the House of Commons, which was attended by Justine Greening, Mr Lefroy said: "There is cross-party support from the front-benches to deliver high speed rail.

"This project is likely to go ahead and I want to make sure that businesses and people living in North Staffordshire get the full benefits.
"Economic growth will be boosted where there are connections to HS2.
"High Speed Rail could make a real difference locally and that is why I am lobbying the Government to include a station on the line in North Staffordshire."
Speaking after the meeting, he added: "The Transport Secretary listened with an open mind to the case for this stop.
"It is important that the benefits of high speed rail come to us here in Staffordshire and do not pass us by."

“Oh dear, another one who thinks they understand but really all they know is what they have heard. And he is an MP. It doesn't bode well for his ability to assess complicated information and make important decisions on behalf of the electorate of Staffordshire who voted him in.
HS2 is a costly crock that will take huge tax revenues from everyone in this country for barely any benefit (by the governments own figures). If he thinks he will get a station he is in a dream world. I am not going to go into great depth to explain why it is the wrong project. Read the reports from the Transport Select Committee or any of the other qualified organisations that have expressed their opposition to this ridiculous scheme. If you have not done a lot of your own research, don't make daft comments based on hearsay. An MP should know better to check his facts, check independently too, before engaging mouth.”
