Family's heartache as brave Ruby Owen dies

The family of five-year-old cancer sufferer Ruby Owen announced their daughter had died on Monday afternoon.

The youngster was diagnosed with cancer in 2009 and fought a long battle against the disease, uncluding two trips to America for pioneering treatment.
A long fundraising campaign raised tens of thousands of pounds to try to help Ruby, who lived in Kidsgrove.

She passed away on Monday, shortly after 4pm and just over three months since she moved to the Trentham Lakes-based Donna Louise Children's Hospice.
A short statement on the family's Twitter account from parents Martin and Rachel said: "Just to let you all know Ruby has slipped away from us this afternoon. She is with the angels now. Heartbroken. Thank you for the support."
