A FAMILY had to flee their home in the early hours of the morning following a suspected arson attack.

Firefighters from Hanley and Burslem were called to the semi-detached house in Crestway Road, Baddeley Green, at 3.13am today.

A fire had started in a detached outhouse and was spreading to the first floor of the house itself.

The two adults and two children who were in the property at the time had escaped their home by the time fire crews arrived at the scene.

One family member was taken to hospital for treatment for an injury sustained during their escape.

Firefighters used one hose reel jet and two breathing apparatuses to tackle the blaze.

The outhouse was left badly damaged, with some fire damage on the first floor and smoke logging throughout the property.

It is believed the fire was started deliberately and forensic officers from the police will examine the scene later today.

“I feel for this family and i think it an outrage, in the past few days we have had to put up with people grafitying cars and peoples propertey and the past few days there has been a man going around trying to entice young children in a van, we are not safe anywere i think its disgusting.... I do hope the family member that was injured makes a quick and full recovery....”
