RESIDENTS have raised concerns about a proposal that could see up to a 100 new houses built on protected green field land.

The proposed development at Newpool Road was discussed by the Knypersley Community Association.

Staffordshire Moorlands District Council has earmarked the green belt area for housing in case it loses an appeal to build in another spot. Protesters appear to have won a 10-year battle against development on land at Newpool Meadows in Biddulph after an independent inspector agreed it should be given protective village green status in April.

A ruling on the council's appeal against the decision is expected next month.

Community association vice chairman Margaret Worthington, aged 65, said: "The impact on this area is going to be quite dramatic.

"There's not enough industry in Biddulph to support the people who will be moving here, so they're all going to be commuting".
