SCHOOL pupils raised more than £700 for charity in just over an hour of collecting.

Youngsters from Alsager Highfields Community Primary School generated £729 on Friday as part of their Fairtrade week.

The cash will now go to the Fairtrade charity Traidcraft Exchange.

The event had games including hook a duck, tombolas and Easter egg hunts.

It also hosted craft stalls selling crafts and cakes made by the children.

Youngsters have been learning about Fairtrade and donated items, while local businesses made donations to be used as raffle prizes.

Highfields supports schools in Ethiopia and Namibia. The school had a school building named after it in Biftu, Ethiopia, after children raised money last year.
