DEAN Whitehead is back under starter's orders to fill in at full back for Stoke City's big FA Cup clash against Manchester City on Saturday.

Manager Tony Pulis revealed that both Andy Wilkinson and Ryan Shotton are still struggling for full fitness ahead of the fourth round clash at the Britannia.

Whitehead has switched from midfield to play the last one-and-a-half games at right back and left back after Pulis was left short by injuries.

"We've still got one or two niggles," Pulis admitted today.

"Wilko is still struggling a bit, which is a bit of a concern.

"Ryan Shotton has trained and played half a game on Tuesday (behind closed doors against Derby), but he didn't look that comfortable."

Pulis said he would have half-an-eye on next Tuesday's Premier League fixture at home to Wigan, but also insisted:  "I will play my strongest team on Saturday."

He added that Stoke deserved credit for playing their strongest players in recent years and only bowing out of the FA Cup in the last three seasons away to Chelsea and Liverpool – and in the 2011 FA Cup Final against Man City.

Pulis added today that he was still trying to bring in new faces before next week's transfer deadline, but declined to give details.

"I couldn't tell you whether we are going to do it or not," he stated, "but we will certainly be trying and you have to be careful because it is the (Coates) family's money."

“Are wheatear, defjam, wintertime, OSullivan and davejjohnson all the same miserable, grumpy old sod or were they all just given the same instructions to abuse anyone and everyone they don't agree with.

“Brush up on your reading ability, vinceok. What Flint said was that in his LAST season he played rb. But otherwise he's been known as a workhorse in mf with the knack of scoring rare important goals. Inother words, a modern day version of Skeels.”

“Pottersrule - under your previous guises you said that Wilko was at best a Championship player.

I am going to stop picking you up now on your lies and contradictions as i will be here all day and frankly have a life.

But in order to have mature discussion it would be best if:

    a) you ddnt constantly lie
    b) you didnt constantly contradict yourself”

“As we used 7 midfielders the other day plus some on the bench it seems 14 mfs are appropriate. You say the manager hasn't trained anyone to cover at lb. Maybe so, but clearly his coaches have trained Wilko, Shots and Ness to play at lb. Some days the two of them done okay, some days they weren't good. Against So'ton Wilko was a disaster. Ness hasn't been needed yet though I understand from Rangers that he can be nifty there.”
