Extended four-bedroom is in an immaculate condition
W HEN Mark and Diane Cooper came here in 2001 the house was in dire need of modernisation and updating from its 1970s style decor.
Viewing the house today you would have to say that they have done a superb job because their home at 30, Alan Dale, Werrington, is full of character, beautifully finished, well appointed and will make a wonderful family home.
It has been for them but now their children have grown up and left they want to move to somewhere smaller although it will be a wrench to leave.
Diane says: "We feel very safe here, it is very quiet, warm and welcoming and in a lovely location with Wetley Moor and common just across the road which is ideal for walking the dogs.'' Their's is a big house, bigger than first appeared as I parked at the top of a cul de sac bordered by trees. Off the hallway a glazed wooden door opens to a nice fitted breakfast kitchen which, with a tiled floor, cream coloured units and leaded style double glazing is a pleasant looking room as well as being roomy enough for a large table.

It has integrated appliances and there is a separate utility area. Next to it is a room currently used as a study but given that there is a cloakroom/w.c. next to it there is the obvious potential to turn it into a fourth bedroom.
The lounge is L-shaped and big with a feature fireplace which is relatively new and off it is a big conservatory overlooking the secluded back garden and patio/barbecue area.
It is evident as you walk around that there is plenty of wood in the house – "We do like oak,'' says Diane – and although there is not solid oak everywhere the doors have been stained to look like it and very nice it is too.
Halfway up the stairs, a large window allows plenty of natural daylight into the hallway and landing and then on the first floor are three big bedrooms.
Each of them has fitted wardrobes which are more space efficient than free standing ones and, with a bit of a pine theme rather than oak on this level, they look light and warm too. In the master bedroom the wardrobes have glazed doors which look very smart.
There is a big family bathroom which is big enough to have both a bath and a walk-in shower cubicle.
The whole house is immaculate and clearly a lot of time and effort have gone into it and not just the parts you can see. For example, about three years ago the old central heating boiler was replaced with a new combi one and renovation was done on the roof.
It really is in superb condition.
O utside there is parking for a car at the front, a lawn/patio garden at the back and a large garage/workshop.
Mark says the house is lovely but the location makes it really special. He said: "It is a lovely family home and in just the best location.
"Where we are you can walk across the road to the common and you can go from there over towards Bagnall. It is a real asset to have on the doorstep and makes this a really peaceful house.
"Werrington itself is also a great place for families to live. There is the primary school just down the road and Moorside High School nearby.
There are shops, a Post Office, hairdressers, a couple of nice pubs and best of all, when I drive up the main road and climb up towards home I just feel as though I'm leaving the city behind.
"It is time for us to move to somewhere smaller but we want to stay in this area. There is nowhere better to live.''
