Explain why we need £40m site
WOULD someone from Stoke-on-Trent City Council please have the decency to explain to the people of this city why we need a new civic centre about two miles up the road from the one that exists now and was purpose-built 30 years ago?
No way can this gross waste of our money – yes our money – be justified in any way at all.

IDEA: Plans for the city council's £40 million civic centre.
The Year The Town Hall Shrank programme on BBC4 showed a council which has no idea at all how to put the city and its people first.
They really do not seem have an idea how to run a city.

For decades Labour has had control and that is the reason this city is a disgrace from end to end.
It is filthy.
There is so much dereliction.
But there again it really is not entirely the fault of these so-called councillors is it?
The voters of this city fail to get off their backsides and get out to vote.
Let's face it, they do not have to get off their backsides do they?
There is postal voting always available.
But even that is too much trouble for 69 per cent.
Yes, at the last elections only 31 per cent voted.
So really, the people get what they deserve.
In The Sentinel it is reported that Stoke-on-Trent is now also one of the fattest cities in the country.
And it must be the one thing this council is proud of, they let so many food outlets open up anywhere.
Look at the Meir. All there are, are takeaways every few yards, causing so much dirt and filth in food and the packaging being dropped.
There are not enough bins anywhere.
And of course no-one cleans up anymore – there is no money to clean anywhere or even cut the grass in parks or verges.
Mr Perves says the cuts we have had this last few years are nothing to what we are in for, so how come we are going to be borrowing almost £50 million which we will have to pay back?
Last Thursday the BBC programme did show a Lord Mayor arguing with a councillor who was refusing to agree to the budget and closure of two care homes.
We would be better off, certainly, if that ridiculous proposed new civic centre was not built.
It is not needed in any way, shape or form.
Someone should really explain that Hanley is not the centre of this city, never has been, and if they are thinking they will be able to sell the civic centre in Stoke they really are living in cloud cuckoo land.
In fact if any councillor or officer had any brains at all they certainly would not have enough to part their hair.

“Hasn't everyone realised yet than Pervez is determined to leave this city with a massive millstone round its neck.
He knows he has NO CHANCE of gaining power ever again in Stoke-on-Trent.
He and his Labour Group have alienated too many groups of people for them to ever consider voting Labour again.
What is needed in The City is a "Democratic Alliance Group" to put up just one candidate in each ward at the next elections to completely wipe out Labour.”

“No-one from the Council will be able to explain why we need a new Civic Centre for one simple reason: We don't.
This whole project is just a big ego trip for van der Costalot and Pervez. An ego trip that we, the taxpayers, will be paying for long after the two of them have moved on to pastures new.”
