A NATIONAL champion in vegetable growing will host a talk on how to grow your own potatoes.

National Vegetable Society judge Ray Bassett will be at Bridgemere Nursery and Garden World, near Nantwich, on Saturday, February 13.

Mr Bassett, who judges at competitions including the Royal Horticultural Society's London Autumn Harvest Show, will give a talk entitled Growing Potatoes For The Kitchen.

The centre's manager of horticulture Hedley Triggs said: "Ray is an expert in horticulture and has been popular with customers when he's appeared at the garden centre in the past."

Mr Bassett, who lives in Hopton, near Stafford, has won 139 major trophies for his fruit and vegetables.

Tickets for the talk, which starts at 11am, cost £3 and include refreshments. They can be bought from the garden centre or by calling 01270 521 100. Booking is essential.
