A UNIVERSITY graduate spent six weeks entertaining the county's troops in a war torn country.

Former Staffordshire University student Hal Stewart hosted radio shows at Camp Bastion in Afghanistan, above.

The 29-year-old, who studied at the university from 2001 until 2004, said: "I could never have imagined I would one day be hosting a breakfast show in Afghanistan but that is exactly what happened."

During his trip Hal took part in a number of morale boosting activities with the 3rd Battalion the Mercian Regiment.

Hal was in Afghanistan at the same time as his cousin, Major Mark Dornan.

He is now back on the airways for BFBS in Perthshire, as a presenter, broadcasting to British troops across the world.
