STEAM railway enthusiasts are in for a treat at the annual gala on the Churnet Valley Railway next weekend.

It will feature an impressive line-up of locomotives, including the Crewe-built Black 5 No. 44767 'George Stephenson'.

Other special features of the weekend will be the chance to see the two Black 5 locomotives working double-headed on the line to Cauldon Lowe, and freight trains making round trips between Frogall and Leekbrook.

The CVR's locomotive workshop and carriage shed at Cheddleton will both be open to visitors.

CVR operations director, Greg Wilson, said: "This is one of the biggest enthusiast events of our calendar and will be an ideal opportunity to see some impressive steam locomotives in action in the varied countryside around the Churnet Valley."

All-day tickets to the event cost £20 for adults and £18 for seniors.
