Carl, aged 56, says: "The inn has been modernised in recent years but we've kept the old beams and open fires, so it still retains that cosy, intimate atmosphere.
"We are all really looking forward to the festive season as it's our favourite time of year. "The surrounding countryside changes quite dramatically and the weather gets chillier, which only makes our pub, with its five log fires, even cosier."
The country inn is starting off its autumn calendar of events with a Bonfire and Firework night on Friday, November 2, with proceeds going to the Donna Louise Children's Hospice Trust.
The pub attracts lots of regular customers from Onneley and the neighbouring towns and villages, which is possibly responsible for the community feel.
The large pub and restaurant is separated into smaller pockets which serve different purposes, so whether you want a comfy seat by an open fire to enjoy a drink and a snack or a traditional home-cooked meal in the restaurant, the pub caters for all.
The head chef Richard Astbury sources all of his ingredients from local producers and suppliers.
They have recently introduced their new autumn/winter menu, which has kept many of the old classics, such as steak and ale pie and fish and chips, but has also added some new dishes, such as home-made game pie and lamb steak with garlic and rosemary potatoes.
All are traditional, hearty meals, ideal for the wintry months ahead.
Richard says: "We are passionate, at the Wheatsheaf, about offering a quality service and value for money, but above all we want our customers to feel at ease and to enjoy their time with us."
The country inn also offers plenty of entertainment throughout the coming months.
They have a pianist on Friday and Saturday nights, regular band nights and there is also a jazz trio who perform every Sunday evening.
Carl says: "We like to create a relaxed, cosy atmosphere and many of our customers love sitting on the comfy sofas, having a drink in front of the roaring fire and listening to live music."
Already into autumn and with Christmas fast approaching, The Wheatsheaf Inn makes an ideal location for your work Christmas party. They offer a range of party nights on Fridays and Saturdays throughout December, which includes a four course meal.
They can cater for small and large parties, and also have accommodation, so there is no need to be the designated driver.
The accommodation comprises of 10 en suite double rooms, some of which have been converted from the stables used in the coaching inn era. The rooms are AA four-star rated and are all spotlessly clean and decorated in country inn style.
The Wheatsheaf Inn is also taking bookings for Christmas Day, Boxing Day and their New Year's Eve gala buffet, although tickets are selling fast.
The Wheatsheaf Inn is located on Barhill Road, Onneley, Staffordshire/Cheshire, CW3 9QF. For more information, call 01782 751581, or visit www.wheatsheafpub.co.uk
