THOUSANDS of people are expected to line the streets of Stoke-on-Trent and North Staffordshire today to watch some of the best cyclists in the world compete in the Tour of Britain.

Stage five starts at The Britannia Stadium at 10.30am and will finish 134km (84 miles) later outside Hanley Town Hall at 1.45pm.

The route will take in a sprint at Stone with cyclists expected there at 11.14am. There will also be a sprint finish in Leek town centre after 93.6km (58.5 miles). The cyclists are expected there at 12.51pm.They will tackle Cheddleton Hill at 12.59pm, with a sprint at Wedgwood in Barlaston at 1.32pm, before the stage ends in the city centre at about 1.45pm.

There will be many road closures throughout the day.

    “How long will it take for them all to ride down that litttle bit of road they have been allocated with the green tarmac, going to be difficult overtaking. Think Ill give it a miss, its like F1 the bloke at the front will win, unless someone puts a stick in his spokes.

    Might liven it up a bit”
