Elections are banned because the council wants to stem the growth of the BNP
ELECTION BAN: The reason that there is an initiative taking place to ban elections every year at Stoke-on-Trent City Council is to stem the growth of the BNP. I can still remember when they banned political party advertising placards during elections because they were worried one might fall off a lamppost and injure somebody.

“You don't really think he put that together himself do you?
And reality check Mr Batkin, the BNP can cause itself enough damage to decrease numbers. The people of Stoke-on-Trent are not shallow enough to continue believing your lies.”

“Yes, I remember when election posters were banned as well. Of Course, the real reason that they were banned was because Labour were finding themselves massively outdone with regards to getting them produced and put up. That is a decision that I hope a future administration will reverse, as it has done such a lot of harm to the election campaign process and democracy in general.
With any luck, we will reject the idea of all out elections, it is not in the tradition of this city, and it will allow power to be centralised in the hands of the councillors rather than the residents of the city. As we all know, our leaders don't need any encouragment to grab whatever powers they can, are we really going to make things easy for them?”
