Pat Whitehouse, aged 54, is a project manager for the Closer To Home Circular Walk Scheme. She lives in Leek Road, Shelton, and often takes her grandchildren to the Toby Carvery in Longton Road in Trentham.

THEY do a lovely carvery and it's such good value. The food is always very nicely cooked and well presented. You can help yourself to as much as you want and go back for seconds and the ambience there is nice.

It's suitable for families and I usually go with my grandchildren, which is always a pleasant experience.

The staff are very friendly and nothing ever seems too much trouble. The facilities are nice and clean, especially the toilets, which always makes for a better experience. I don't think you can ask for anything more to be honest when your taking your family out.

Even though the interior is quite standardised, what with it belonging to a chain of restaurants, it does have 1960s pop memorabilia on the walls, which is great for certain age groups. They also have photographs and facts on the wall about the local area which is nice to see.

As well as the carvery they have bar meals and a whole range of different snacks. I first discovered the place through my work. I arrange for the walking groups to meet in the car park of the Toby and they very kindly allow us to do this.

I go for lunch with friends there sometimes too, and it works out at something like £5 a head which is fantastic value.
