DRIVERS using a leisure centre car park have been hit with 962 parking fines in a year.

The site at Fenton Manor topped the list for the most number of penalty tickets issued at Stoke-on-Trent City Council car parks in 2011/12.

Kingsway car park, in Stoke, came a close second, with motorists being saddled with 713 fines there.

The reasons for the penalty notices included people not displaying a valid ticket, over-running the time, parking in a disabled bay without a blue badge, and parking outside a marked space.
