REGARDING the letter from Mrs J Bennett (The Sentinel August 20), 'No signals'.

Surely Mrs Bennett can't expect most of the drivers in our city to operate an indicator switch at the same time as holding a cigarette in one hand and texting with the other, how many hands does she think the average driver has? Before you know it she will expect drivers to wear seatbelts and not throw litter out of their car windows.

I'm sure if Mrs Bennett had her way all drivers would have to stick to the speed limits, stop at zebra crossings to allow pedestrians to cross the road and dare I say it, not drive their cars at all just because they've drunk seven pints of lager.

We all know where that sort of behaviour on our roads could lead to, yes that's right, courtesy and respect for other road users, which in turn could lead to fewer accidents and who knows, maybe lower insurance premiums and I'm sure no-one wants to see that.

“Where would we be without Taxi drivers who suddenly stop in the middle of the road, HGV drivers who pull onto roundabouts right in front of oncoming traffic and, my personal favourite, blokes in rusty white vans who stop at the end of a side road, look to make sure that there is a car coming towards them down the main road, and then pull out straight in front and proceed up the road at 20mph with thick black smoke belching from their exhaust.
    The list is endless..............”
