FIREFIGHTERS removed the roof of a car to rescue a trapped motorist.

Emergency services were called to Longton Road in Trentham after a Citroen Saxo hit a tree leaving the male driver trapped.

The incident took place at roughly 3.30am this morning close to the NatWest bank.

Firefighters from Longton attended the scene along with two ambulances.

The driver - believed to be in his mid-thirties - was taken to the University Hospital of North Staffordshire after being placed on a spine board as a precaution.

“Isn't there a local community group trying to get the Council to install cameras along this stretch? People seem to ignore the speed limit of 30 mph. If people ignore the speed limits unless there's a speed camera there to witness their criminality, when caught they should be punished at a higher rate than if caught on camera. If doing 40 in a 30mph zone and caught on camera and a fine of £60 is imposed -then if doing the same and caught without the aid of a camera -the fine should be £100 as an extra deterrent and to pay for the cop who caught them.”

“I hope this chap is ok and I have no idea about how the incident in question happened but it brings to mind the amount of idiots I've seen driving around in the recent bad weather. If you want to have a bit of fun take your car to a track and do it in safety.

Yesterday evening when I was on my way to the hospital to visit a friend I was cut up by a speeding (random small car of some description).

To whoever was driving this car - in case you hadn't noticed I was driving a big truck and would squish you like a bug in the event of a crash if you lost control on a patch of black ice, etc...!

And before the gritters had been down Silverdale Road the other night in the worst bit of snow recently people were hurtling along the road well in excess of the 30mph speed limit regardless of the fact that they couldn't see where the road was for the amount of snow on it!

Slow down folks! Better to be slightly late in this world than early into the next world...

Once again, I hope the chap involved in the reported incident is ok and has a speedy recovery.”
