Driver's quick thinking saves life after Uttoxeter A50 crash
THESE horrifying pictures shows how lucky a driver was to escape with only minor injuries after her car was crushed by the trailer of a lorry.
The chilling images were taken by West Midlands Ambulance Service personnel shortly after a lorry in the outside lane of the A50 dual carriageway toppled on to a Nissan Micra near the Mcdonald's in Uttoxeter.
The 20-year-old female driver of the Micra told ambulance staff she realised what was happening and managed to get her seatbelt off and roll on to her side in a foetal position.
Ambulance bosses say the act of quick thinking, which allowed the woman to scramble out of the passenger side of the car, probably saved her life.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “The lorry was pulling a trailer which toppled over onto the car pushing the roof down into the passenger compartment.
“Given the level of damage to the car, had she not had the presence of mind to act the way that she did, the level of injury would certainly have been serious if not worse.
“It is fair to say that her quick thinking probably saved her life.
The woman suffered a hand injury and was taken to a specialist clinic at Royal Derby Hospital after being assessed at the scene.
The lorry driver was uninjured but said to be left shaken by the incident.

“They keep rolling over on that stoke A50 road, stoke is insane, I had 3 near misses yesterday due to a mini overtaking where 2 lanes become one, if we hadn't have turned sharp to avoid the miss there would have been a huge accident, 3 cars driving down the center of a single lane traffic, they almost ran into the side of us doing that trick, now the 3 rollovers in 12 months sign needs updating to 4 rollovers in 12 months now. Its been going on for years, about time more CCTV cams were placed around those junctions.
Had a near miss again today waiting at the mc ds's island, transit van flew past in front of 2 oncomming lorrys, how they missed the transit I have no idea, fear the thought of 2 lorrys smashing into the side of a van so close to the esso station!! when will drives LEARN not to take such stupid risks all for the sake of saving 2 seconds!!!!
ive noticed a few dented signposts dotted around the past few weeks also. Roads are getting worse and something needs to be done, we shouldn't have to drive to avoid collisions with stupid people on the road!
I'm fitting CCTV to my van soon, Im tired of having to avoid stupid people on the road! Plus some yobbo smashed into my van and stole some of my stuff, so needs must!
A old lady was killed on the stafford road island a couple of years ago, all becasue a lorry driver didnt slow down going over the island.
Glad the girl was ok! very very lucky! Safe driving to everyone and dont take stupid risks!”

“Wow, that Micra is slammed!
Can't believe the driver got out unscathed, well done! This is a credit to advances in car safety. Good job too, the roads are a dangerous place.”

."I was the driver in this accident, I was wearing my seat belt. I'm 22 for a start not 20 but that's a minor mistake. I somehow managed to undo my seat belt but couldn't open the passenger door so climbed out of the window. I'm absolutely disgusted that people would assume that I wasn't wearing my seatbelt how dare you. The driver of the lorry didn't negotiate the corner well and didn't at any point check that I was ok but it was an accident I'm just very lucky to be alive and very grateful to the people there that helped me and the staff at Derby hospital"
Your actions and comment are honourable, but I have to say tashwood1990, accidents do not happen....they are caused!
Glad you are OK”

“I cant believe people have said the lady probably hadnt got her seatbelt onin the 1st place !! A she is a very lucky lady who's quick thinking actions probably saved her life and you try to disrespect this and B most modern cars have bleepers /flashing lights for none seatbelt wearing and this would drive anyone batty to point of you just putting your seat belt on !!! Its upto the police to investigate /blame not you lot who werent even there !!! I hope this situation never happens to anyone but i also hope that if it does you are also as quick with your thinking as you are with your conclusion jumping !”

“thank you very much as for @laythevale do you know what i did in that 0.5 seconds that you claim I was preparing my story for the police I put my hands over my head ducked down and prepared to die. I hope nothing like this ever happens to you. You can do your silly reinactments of what happened but you weren't there, you didn't see. A lorry didn't fall on your head did it.”
