Driver ploughs into reservation on MFI roundabout
SMASH: A van driver was taken to hospital after his Ford Transit ploughed into the reservation of a busy roundabout.
Emergency services were called to the former MFI roundabout, above the A500 between Etruria Road and Basford, at 2.30pm yesterday.
Traffic tailed back in both directions along the A53, as firefighters, police and paramedics attended the scene.
Police say the black van was also in collision with a grey Fiat Punto.
The male driver of the van, believed to be in his 40s, was taken to the University Hospital of North Staffordshire with suspected chest injuries after hitting the steering wheel.
The man didn't need to be cut out of the van, but was taken off on a spinal board as a precaution. Picture: Phil Radcliffe
