A MAN was killed in a road traffic collision yesterday.

The man, in his 30s, who has not been named, was driving a red Ford Mondeo which was involved in a collision with a lorry on the A53 at Quarnford Lodge, Quarnford, near Blackshaw Moor, Leek, at about 3.20pm. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The lorry driver, who is also in his 30s, was arrested and was last night detained by police.

Police, fire and ambulance crews, as well as a paramedic in a rapid response vehicle and an incident support officer, attended the scene.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: "The driver of the car, a man, was trapped in the vehicle and had suffered serious multiple injuries.

"Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of ambulance crews, nothing could be done to save the man and he was confirmed dead at the scene.

"The driver of the lorry, a man, suffered minor injuries and was treated on scene by crews."
