Driver answers appeal over mosque baby
DETECTIVES searching for the mother of a baby boy dumped outside a mosque have spoken to a motorist seen in the area at the time.
The driver of a Peugeot car, who police believed may have vital information about the incident, came forward following an appeal in The Sentinel.
The potential breakthrough comes as officers spoke to 113 pedestrians and drivers about the missing mum on Saturday morning.
Police were in Beresford Street, Shelton, between 4.30am and 10.30am exactly a week after the baby was abandoned.
Chief Inspector Wayne Jones, of Staffordshire Police, said: "We wanted to speak to as many people as possible – especially early morning worshippers at the mosques – and we had a great response.
"Our top priority is finding the baby's mum. I would urge her to come forward."
Anyone who knows the identity of the woman should call the Beresford Street Incident Room at Staffordshire Police on 0300 1234455.
