Don't lift ban on fox hunts
UTTOXETER MP Janet Dean has claimed Tory plans to prioritise lifting the ban on fox hunting do not make sense.
The Labour backbencher insisted the country is facing much more pressing issues than the ban on fox hunting, which is celebrating its fifth anniversary.
She said dozens of prosecutions have been brought under the legislation and is urging her constituents to sign a petition to protect the ban.
Mrs Dean said that according to the results of a poll last month, three-quarters of people do not want hunting with dogs to be re-legalised.
She said there is no evidence the doom-laden predictions for rural areas, made by hunt campaigners, have happened.
But she claimed the Hunting Act is under threat with the Tories making it clear that they want to get rid of it as soon as possible.
Mrs Dean said: "IThe ban is making a difference and it is supported by the overwhelming majority of the British public. I am urging people in Burton and Uttoxeter to sign the petition to protect the ban at www.backtheban.com"

“The only people "prioritising" fox hunting are Labour, who keep on banging on about it as if it was the only issue on the table. No, we're not going to forget about Iraq, the economy or expenses.”
